Fragrant flavors, bold savory tastes, and an exotic history spanning more than 1,000 years. Curious? It’s all at Spice Merchants, Lisa Freeman’s gourmet spice and tea shop. She opened her first store in Saugatuck in 2003 and has expanded her business to several corporate and franchises across the country.
Lisa loves that her product is fun and easy to use - you don’t often buy specialty spices and seasonings as a chore, but rather for a fun and enjoyable event – eating! Spices are exceptionally healthy and transformative to a meal, especially when done right. She uses high-quality sea salts, and fresh spices to create her hand-blended concoctions and is always excited to learn how her customers combine her spices with other products throughout the market.
Some things about the Lisa and her shop that we think make her pretty cool: She worked in the airline industry as an account manager and was severely affected by 9/11, causing her to change her course of action; the stores are coast to coast now, with locations in California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, North Carolina, Cape Cod, and here in Michigan; You’ll find over 450 jars of spices, spice blends, and loose leaf teas in Lisa’s store, along with a fantastic line of hot sauces, chocolates, and gifts.
