The Grand Rapids Downtown Market, the region’s preeminent destination for innovative food experiences, today announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors.

Tim Kelly, president and CEO at Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., and Andy Winkel, CFO and COO at Founders Brewing Company, will begin their term in January, working to advance the Market’s mission and vision, including connecting with the community and helping to cultivate and grow small businesses.

“Our board members are the driving force behind the Market, dedicated to advancing our mission of supporting Grand Rapids’ entrepreneurs and offering dynamic food-centered experiences,” said Mimi Fritz, president and CEO of the Downtown Market. “Andy and Tim are both passionate and dedicated leaders who bring a wealth of community and business experience.”

Kelly has been with Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. since 2013. In that time he has managed several key capital projects and planning efforts, including the first update to the Downtown Master Plan in more than 20 years. Prior to working in Grand Rapids, he served as a development analyst and project manager for the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency in Long Beach, Calif. from 2009 to 2013. Kelly graduated from Hope College with a degree in Business Management in 2003, and with distinction from Cal Poly San Louis Obispo with a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning in 2009.

“The Downtown Market has been the cornerstone for revitalization of downtown, and I am thrilled to be a part of helping it grow and evolve,” said Kelly. “The Market’s diverse mix of small business owners strengthen and enhance downtown’s retail sector, which helps our overall urban community thrive.”

Winkel has been involved with Founders since 2007 when, as a real estate developer, he helped Founders transition from its original location to its current home. Following the relocation, Winkel actively served on Founders’ Board of Directors until 2011 when he became the company’s CFO. In 2018, Winkel also became the company’s COO and has fulfilled both positions since. Prior to his time at Founders, Winkel spent ten years in the finance and urban real estate development industries, most notably as co-founder of Locus Development. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan business school.

“Most of my career has been about building better, smarter places to live, work and play in downtown Grand Rapids, the kinds of places that both create a sense of community and drive economic growth,” said Winkel. “The Downtown Market fits perfectly into that vision for our city, and I am honored to join the Board,” said Winkel.
