With our roots starting in fresh and local ingredients and the Downtown Market providing locally sourced products, it only makes sense that our two businesses work together to provide proper food education to our community.
This Friday, the Downtown Market will host Market Masters 2: Back for Seconds and we are thrilled to be a part of this special event. Market Masters will feature top chefs from the Downtown Market in an iron-chef style competition. Each team, consisting of a chef and sous chef, will have a limited amount of time to create a dish featuring a secret ingredient. In three rounds the judges will decide which team will be named the 2017 Market Master.
This year, one of our sales representatives, Gordy Mouw, will judge the event. Mouw’s focus is on specialty produce, much of which is produced right here in Michigan. He is a seasoned chef with many years in the business and has a great take on showcasing local, fresh food. Mouw looks forward to seeing how the competition performs under pressure and who can really think outside of the box.
We are excited to be a part of a local event that highlights some of the best of Grand Rapids. What better way to celebrate our incredible city than with local chefs battling in the kitchen with delicious, fresh ingredients?
Tickets for the event include a cocktail, desserts from Downtown Market favorites and an evening of entertainment. A cash bar will also be available, featuring fresh, specialty cocktails made with local spirits, as well as local brews and wine.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Downtown Market Education Foundation, which supports culinary and nutritional education, entrepreneur opportunities and local food production, with the goal of creating a healthier community lifestyle. The foundation supports access to, and promotion of, fresh healthy foods for all, including disadvantaged families and children.
From our very beginnings almost 100 years ago, we have distributed fresh produce to local restaurants and grocers. We like to say we practiced farm to table before it was even a trend. Now, as the demand for local ingredients grows, we continue to partner with restaurants to provide the freshest ingredients possible.
We enjoy working with the Downtown Market because we hold many of the same ideas and values to heart. They are our neighbor and many of our own employees walk the short distance for lunch, coffee, or simply to enjoy the setting. Since our beginnings way back in 1920, we have strived to maintain the local and sustainable image that our customers love. Now, these products are highlighted in the Downtown Market, whose dedication to local food and entrepreneurship attracts locals and visitors alike.
