7 Delicious & Easy Sandwiches That Make The Most Of Field & Fire’s Bread
Posted on September 6, 2016 by Downtown Market
Field & Fire pours a ton of thought, care, and preparation into everything that they produce. Add in the fact that they have an entire team of artisan bakers that know their stuff and you can start to understand how they can create such flavorful loaves of bread. They really do live up to the hype.
As much as we love their bread, we understand that sometimes it can be a little difficult for newcomers to decide which loaf is right for them. All of those european names can be intimidating at first glance. Fortunately for us, we have the luxury of eating from Field & Fire every day, and while each loaf is delicious in it’s own right, the real magic happens when you correctly pair each loaf of bread with a complimentary group of flavors. In order to help, we highlighted some of our favorite breads and a simple sandwich pairing to go with them.
Brioche is the cake of bread. It is soft, buttery, rich and is even made with a touch of honey from Melody Bee Farms. It’s softness and cake-like texture make it a perfect candidate for a classic Peanut Butter & Jelly, made Market-style!
- A loaf of Brioche (we like to get it and let it sit for a day. That gets it nice and firm around the edges, but still nice and soft on the inside).
- Organic Peanut Butter from Malamiah Juice Bar.
- Strawberry Preserves from Michigan Pantry.
This lunch box classic is one of our favorites. Cut the loaf of Brioche into thick slices. Smear a generous amount of organic peanut butter on one slice, and strawberry preserves on the other side. Smash those two sides together and you’ve got yourself one killer PB&J.
This loaf is made with 6 different grains and then covered in flax seeds and oats. Kickstart your mornings by throwing a slice in the toaster - it tastes fantastic! We also love using it to make an Open-faced Avocado Toast. It’s easy and healthy… Plus, who doesn’t love avocados?!
- A loaf of Multigrain.
- Fresh Avocados from Relish Green Grocer.
- Salt, Pepper, and Red Chile Flakes from Spice Merchants.
Scoop out the insides of your avocados and place into a bowl. Sprinkle in salt, pepper, and red Chile flakes to taste and mash it all together. Slice and toast your multigrain bread. Then take a generous portion of your mixture, spread it on to your toast, and enjoy!
This traditional italian style bread is flatter in shape and has a very open crumb. It’s texture makes it perfect for any sort of grilled sandwich. We highly recommend scooting over to Aperitivo and picking up your favorite cheeses so that you can make yourself a Grilled Cheese on Ciabatta.
- A loaf of Ciabatta.
- Butter from Relish's cooler.
- Your favorite cheeses. We recommend combining the Appenzeller & Grafton Village Cheddar from Aperitivo.
This one is easy. Turn on the stove and heat up a medium skillet. Slice your ciabatta in half and butter one side of each half. Place the bread butter-side-down on the skillet and add the cheese. Grill until bread is slightly brown and cheese is melted. Remove from heat, let cool, and enjoy!
This large speciality loaf is rustic style sourdough made with a variety of whole grains. It has a bit of a tangy taste to it, which makes it the perfect loaf of bread for a Roasted Red Pepper & Tuna sandwich.
- 12 oz of Tuna from Fishlads.
- Olive Oil from Old World Olive Co.
- Red peppers from Relish.
- Red Wine Vinegar.
In a medium bowl, combine 12 oz of tuna, 1/2 tsp black pepper, 1 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil, 1/3 cup of thinly sliced roasted red peppers, fresh basil, and a tsp of red wine vinegar to finish it all off. Mix all ingredients together and spread onto slices of Miche!
This loaf is another classic for sandwiches. It is 100% whole wheat and made from a combination of sunflower seeds and soaked flax seeds. It’s high in fiber and Omega 3’s, which makes this one of the healthiest loaves of bread you can buy. If you’re looking for a super simple and healthy sandwich to send your children off to school with, have them try a Cheddar & Apple sandwich!
- A loaf of Sunflower Flax.
- Red Barn Cupola Cheddar from Aperitivo.
- Fresh Apples from Relish.
- Mustard from Michigan Pantry
Spread a thin layer of mustard on your slices of sunflower flax. Next, thinly slice the apples and 1 oz of cheddar cheese. Place both on the sunflower flax and you’re good to go. This sandwich might sound a little out there for some folks, but trust us. Tons of people have fallen in love with this combination of flavors!
Simply put, Field & Fire makes croissants that are to die for! They use only the highest quality of ingredients and the results speak for themselves. Their butter croissants are a flaky delight and we love getting creative on the weekends and making a few gourmet breakfast sandwiches.
- Butter Croissants.
- Grafton Village Cheddar from Aperitivo.
- Eggs from the cooler at Relish Green Grocer.
- The Brinery's Hot Sauce from Relish Green Grocer.
Slice your croissant in half like a book, lay onto a plate and drizzle with hot sauce. Finely grate your Grafton Cheddar over the insides of the croissant. Add a egg cooked to your liking (we prefer fired and runny), close up the croissant, and enjoy.
We’re big fans of these rustic French Baguettes. This long thin bread is wood fired and has a crisp outer crust with a wonderfully soft interior. We love to slice them up and dip small pieces in some pesto olive oil, soup, or stews. We also really enjoy taking advantage of their portable nature and whipping up classic charcuterie pairings for an on-the-go delight. One pairing we are really into right now is a Pimento Cheese & Salami Sandwich.
- French Baguette.
- Zingerman’s Pimento Cheese Spread from the Aperitivo counter.
- Dodge City Salami from Aperitivo.
- Greens from Relish Green Grocer.
- Balsamic Vinegar from Old World Olive Co.
Preheat oven to 350. Slice your baguette in half like a book and place on a cookie sheet. Spread both pieces of baguette heavily with pimento cheese and top one side with Dodge City Salami. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and toast until the spread is melted and bread slightly browned, then remove from oven. Toss fresh greens from Relish lightly in a bowl with a generous amount of Balsamic Vinegar. Place greens and enjoy!
